Situation

When MetroPCS, the nation’s fastest-growing prepaid wireless service provider, needed to open 1,087 new retail locations in New York and 720 in Boston in an “impossible” two-month time frame, they turned to trusted partner USFI to handle the logistics and supply chain management for all the collateral, signage and point-of-purchase inventory, from design to printing and delivery.

Action

USFI developed a dynamic project plan identifying key items needed for each store in each market. We set milestones for designing, producing, consolidating, prioritizing and kitting, and logistics for the delivery and setup of custom-versioned "starter kits" to the different market locales. The plan was posted online and could be accessed by key client stakeholders, USFI team members and regional supplier partners (coordinated by USFI) for the latest updates and schedule changes. 

To create a streamlined, cost-effective online ordering and stock management system, we developed a special site for dealer partners and MetroPCS field personnel, complete with reporting tools to prioritize shipments, time releases and report availability of finished items for market back to corporate.

Results

Relying on the project management and innovative procurement, logistics and supply chain solutions developed by USFI, MetroPCS easily achieved their opening market launch dates, opening more than 1,800 stores with 61 SKUs. The company continues to rely on USFI-built systems to manage their in-store collateral, signage procurement and delivery needs.
